Procopio Expands Labor and Employment Practice with the Addition of Three New Partners

Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP is pleased to announce that three new partners – Marie Burke Kenny, Phillip L. Kossy and Robert A. Levy – have joined the firm’s Labor and Employment Practice.

Kenny represents employers in federal and state court litigation involving wage and hour, wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation and unfair competition claims. Ms. Kenny also represents employers in class actions, mediation, arbitration and state and federal agency proceedings. She has extensive experience counseling employers regarding all aspects of the employment relationship and works with employers to develop strategies to prevent employment claims and create effective defenses to litigation. She has been an adjunct professor of employment law for San Diego State University's Human Resources Certification Program. Kenny received her J.D., cum laude, from the University of San Diego in 1995. In 2011, she was given the YWCA Tribute to Women & Industry Award and was named by the San Diego Metropolitan Magazine as one of “40 under 40” in 2009.
Kossy’s practice includes areas such as discrimination and harassment litigation, wage and hour litigation, class action litigation, counseling, wrongful termination litigation, recent legislative developments, sexual harassment issues and violence in the workplace. Mr. Kossy has extensive civil litigation experience in California and United States courts, including employment and personnel, civil rights and tort liability matters for private and public sector employers. He has lectured on a variety of labor and employment law issues, including recent legislative developments, wage and hour law, discrimination, sexual harassment and wrongful termination. In 1976, he earned his J.D. with honors from The George Washington University Law School. Mr. Kossy was recognized by Best Lawyers in America in 2011 and 2012 in the area of Litigation – Labor and Employment. He has also been included in Super Lawyers: Corporate Counsel in 2010, Super Lawyers: Business Edition in 2011 and San Diego Super Lawyers in 2011 in the area of Employment and Labor. In 2006, Mr. Kossy was selected as one of the Top San Diego County Attorneys by The Daily Transcript.
Levy primarily assists clients in solving employment problems and developing strategies to deal with employment issues, including hiring, performance, discipline and termination, workplace violence and reductions in force. Mr. Levy counsels employers regarding wage and hour law, discrimination, harassment and retaliation law, and all aspects of the employment relationship. He also defends employers in wage and hour class action and other employment litigation. Mr. Levy served as an adjunct professor, teaching Employment Relations Law in the Human Resources Certificate Program at San Diego State University for over 20 years. In 1980, he earned his J.D. from the University of Southern California. Mr. Levy was recognized by Super Lawyers: Corporate Counsel in 2010, Super Lawyers: Business Edition in 2011 and San Diego Super Lawyers in 2011 in the area of Employment & Labor.
