Wendel Rosen's Margaret Grover Joins Board of Director's of National Historic Landmark, Oakland's Paramount Theatre
OAKLAND, Calif., Aug, 19, 2015 – Wendel, Rosen, Black & Dean LLP Partner Margaret (“Maggie”) Grover has been named to the Board of Directors of Oakland’s historic Art Deco Paramount Theatre. A long-time patron of the venue, her term begins immediately.
Designed by renowned San Francisco architect Timothy L. Pflueger, the Paramount Theatre was completed in 1931 and remains one of the finest examples of Art Deco design in the United States. The theatre enjoyed a brief period of “movie palace” glory in the 1930s, but eventually suffered from decades of neglect. In 1972, the theatre was purchased by the Oakland Symphony Orchestra Association, and a detailed and authentic restoration was completed in 1973. Since, the Paramount Theatre has been entered in the National Register of Historic Places (1973) and named a California Registered Historic Landmark (1976), as well as a National Historic Landmark (1977). Today, the theatre is home to the Oakland East Bay Symphony and is one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s premiere performing arts facilities.
“The Paramount Theatre is an integral part of the history and future of Oakland’s vibrant arts scene,” said Grover. “The venue is intertwined with my own personal history as well, and I have been fortunate to experience everything from symphony performances to rock shows to old-time movies there. The theatre is truly a work of art, and I look forward to contributing to its continued magnificence.”
Grover’s legal practice has focused on employment matters for nearly 30 years, representing both employers and employees. She advises clients on a wide range of issues including harassment, discrimination, Affordable Care Act, Family and Medical Leave and Family Rights Acts, Americans with Disabilities Act, wage and hour matters, Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, workplace security, severance, and workplace privacy. She also represents clients in all phases of employment litigation, including ERISA actions. In addition, Grover is an experienced mediator, working to resolve a broad range of disputes, including employment and business matters.
In addition to her involvement with the Paramount Theatre, Grover serves on the Board of Directors of East Bay Rowing Club and is a volunteer coach with Team in Training, which raises funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society while training athletes to complete endurance events. She is a member of the Alameda County Bar Association and the Contra Costa County Bar Association. Grover earned her J.D. from Case Western Reserve University (1983) and her B.S. from the University of Maryland (1980).
