Procopio Elects Two Lawyers to Partner

San Diego, CA – Procopio is pleased to announce that two lawyers have been elected to the firm’s partnership, effective January 1, 2015. The newly elected partners are Paul Burns and Cecilia (“Ceci”) Miller.

Paul, who splits his time among the firm’s Phoenix, San Diego and Silicon Valley offices, concentrates his practice in intellectual property and technology-related litigation, counseling and transactions, as well as commercial litigation, e-discovery, arbitration and mediation.  He was recently elected to the Board of The Sedona Conference and has held leadership positions in the American Intellectual Property Law Association, Federal Bar Association, Licensing Executives Society, Copyright Society of the USA, International Trademark Association, and as a Fellow of the American Bar Association.  In addition, Paul serves as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and CPR, and as a mediator for the National Conflict Resolution Center. Paul’s expertise has been recognized by his inclusion in Best Lawyers in America® for Patent Litigation, Intellectual Property Litigation, Patent Law and Copyright Law every year since 2007, and by his appointments as Adjunct Professor of Law at Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law and Pepperdine University School of Law’s Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution.  Paul is registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office and received both his BS in Computer Science and JD magna cum laude from Boston College.
Ceci concentrates her practice on complex commercial litigation and pre-litigation counseling with a focus on insurance coverage recovery for corporate and municipal policyholders. She has represented technology, financial services, life sciences, hospitality, multi-media, communications, healthcare, manufacturing, construction, charter schools and municipal clients obtaining millions in insurance coverage for third party and first party liabilities under a wide range of insurance policies, including commercial general, D&O, multi-media, IP, public entity, pollution legal liability, employment practices, Builder’s Risk, subcontractor default insurance, and bankers professional liability policies. Ceci’s practice encompasses trial and appellate representation of her clients in state and federal courts across the country as well as in arbitrations and mediations. Ceci’s expertise has been recognized by her recognition as a “Top Attorney” in the field of insurance by the San Diego Daily Transcript. She has held leadership positions with the San Diego County Bar Association including past Chair of the Insurance & Bad Faith Section and the Appellate Court Committee.  Ceci received her BA in Political Science and International Studies magna cum laude from Boston College.  She received her JD summa cum laude from the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America, where she was valedictorian of her class.
