Procopio Promotes Five Attorneys to Partner

San Diego, CA –Procopio is pleased to announce the promotion of five attorneys to the partnership: Dave DeonarineJeff HoodJohn LemmoScott Omohundro and Fred Taylor.

Dave Deonarine’s practice focuses on complex intellectual property litigation and counseling. Deonarine represents clients in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical manufacturing, and consumer product industries. He has extensive experience litigating patent, trademark and copyright cases, including both jury and bench trials and has litigated cases before the International Trade Commission (ITC). He works with a number of Asian corporations, and was recently part of the firm’s trial team responsible for a major jury verdict for large Japanese conglomerate in a patent infringement case. Deonarine also has extensive experience managing global trademark portfolios, U.S. and International clearance, filing and prosecution of trademark applications, and counseling clients on trademark use, registration and enforcement. 

Jeff Hood is a member of the firm’s litigation team, with a focus on construction litigation matters. His construction practice includes the representation of public and private owners, general contractors, subcontractors and sureties in a wide variety of matters involving breach of contract, delay and disruption, collection, mechanic's lien foreclosures and extra work claims. In addition to his construction practice, Mr. Hood handles all aspects of business and commercial litigation, including claims involving real estate, federal tax refunds, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud and professional liability. In the last two years, he has taken the role of first chair on four trials, all involving different areas of the law, and all of which resulted in positive outcomes for his clients. He has been a key player in directing and supervising client litigation in Texas, Arizona, Hawaii and Nevada. In addition to his recent string of trial successes, within the last few years he also secured settlements and judgments in favor of his clients valued in excess of $35 million.

John Lemmo is a member of Procopio’s Public Agencies & Charter Schools, and Environmental & Land Use practice groups.  He represents public agencies, private developers and landowners in matters involving environmental and land use regulation and litigation. He has extensive experience working with and on behalf of local and state governmental and regulatory agencies on permitting, entitlement, compliance, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and enforcement matters.  He also provides general and specialized counseling to charter schools, school districts, water districts and municipalities regarding governance, operational and business matters. 

Scott Omohundro’s practice emphasizes business and civil litigation including construction disputes and breach of contract matters. He is experienced in representing owners and contractors in disputes arising on public and private works of improvement, including contractual disputes, stop notice and payment bond claims, and delay, disruption, and inefficiency claims.

Fred Taylor’s practice focuses upon intellectual property litigation and complex commercial litigation. Taylor has extensive jury trial, arbitration, and appellate experience.  He has represented clients in a wide range of industries and fields, including: telecommunications; chemical manufacturing; apparel; Internet commerce; banking; hospitality; and public entities, including the City of San Diego and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).

In addition to these promotions to partner, the firm has appointed John Cleary as the leader of the Business and Technology team and Rick Barton as the leader of the firm’s Healthcare group. Cleary practices in corporate, securities, mergers and acquisitions and venture financing. Barton’s practice is focused on health care litigation. He has tried and arbitrated over 100 matters on behalf of health systems, hospitals, physician groups and individual providers in business, class action, professional liability, fraud and abuse and administrative matters in both Federal and State court.
