Procopio Adds Four New Associates

The law firm of Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP is pleased to announce that Elizabeth A. Alvarado, Annie Macaleer, Lauren S. Ross, and Aaron B. Sokoloff have joined the firm as associates.  Ms. Alvarado’s and Ms. Macaleer’s practices focus on Labor and Employment, Ms. Ross’ practice focuses on Public Agency and Environmental law matters, and Mr. Sokoloff’s practice focuses on Corporate law matters.
 
Alvarado represents employers in federal and state court litigation involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, unfair competition, and wage and hour claims, including wage and hour class actions. In addition, Ms. Alvarado provides counseling to employers on a broad spectrum of day-to-day employment matters, including discipline, terminations, leaves of absence, and wage and hour issues. She also assists employers in drafting policies, employee handbooks, and employment-related agreements to ensure compliance with California and federal laws while also serving the employer's individual business needs. Prior to joining Procopio, Ms. Alvarado was a member of the Labor and Employment practice group at Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP, handling litigation and counseling matters for employers. Ms. Alvarado received her J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2009, where she graduated magna cum laude and was inducted into the Order of the Coif.
 
Macaleer represents employers in federal and state courts against claims, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, unfair competition, breach of contract, wage and hour, and other statutory claims. In addition to defending employment litigation matters, Ms. Macaleer counsels employers on effective ways to reduce the risk of litigation by advising on employment policies, employee handbooks, employment agreements, and other human resource issues and strategies. Prior to joining Procopio, Ms. Macaleer practiced at a national firm, where she handled litigation and counseling matters for a wide spectrum of employers, from small businesses to publicly traded entities. Ms. Macaleer received her J.D. in 2010 from the University of San Diego School of Law where she served as the Editor-in-Chief of the San Diego Law Review.
 
Ross counsels public agencies on topics pertaining to governance, enforcement, operational, environmental, and financing matters. Prior to joining Procopio, Ms. Ross was a member of the public agency, environmental, and land use group in the Los Angeles office of Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP, where she handled litigation, transactional, and administrative law matters for public and private sector clients.  Ms. Ross clerked for Federal Magistrate Judge Virginia Morgan in the Eastern District of Michigan. Ms. Ross obtained her J.D. in 2008 from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California, where she was a member of the Environmental Negotiation Team and Vice President of the Environmental Law Society.
 
Sokoloff’s practice focuses on corporate law, including startup/venture capital, and mergers & acquisitions.  Mr. Sokoloff has experience in drafting and negotiating transaction documents, due diligence review, and managing transaction process in both venture financings and acquisitions. He has represented several venture-backed companies in debt transactions.  He regularly advises clients on a range of corporate matters, including equity incentive plans and securities law compliance.  Prior to joining Procopio, Mr. Sokoloff was an associate with Fenwick & West LLP.  He received his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 2008.
